Culture Club – Colour By Numbers – Music Monday #6

Welcome to the first Music Monday post of 2015!

If you’re new to the blog and don’t know what Music Monday is then please click here to find out more!

Today the ticket that I picked out at random is C16 which means that the album I’m going to be talking about today is by Culture Club and it’s called Colour By Numbers!

Culture Club are an English band that was formed in the early 80’s, it’s members are Boy George – Lead Vocals, Mikey Craig – Bass Guitar, Roy Hay – Guitar & Keyboards and Jon Moss – Drums & Percussion. I don’t really know how to describe their sound, it’s like Soul, New Wave, Reggae and Rock all mashed up into the ever so unique Culture Club sound!

I feel like Culture Club is a band that everyone will have heard of if for no other reason than the song Karma Chameleon or Boy George’s infamous and frankly fabulous androgynous style. To me Culture Club are the 80’s and they’re amazing.

The album Colour By Numbers was their second album but it is without a shadow of doubt their best album, released in 1983, it sold more than 10 million copies world wide and according to wikipedia has been certified triple platinum in the UK and quadruple platinum in the US. It was ranked #96 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of Top 100 Albums Of 1980’s List, it was also featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die!

So with all that, shall we take a look at this spectacular multi-platinum track list that you must hear before you die?!

Side 1:

  • Karma Chameleon

  • It’s A Miracle

  • Black Money

  • Changing Every Day

  • That’s The Way (I’m Only Trying To Help You)

Side 2:

  • Church Of The Poison Mind

  • Miss Me Blind

  • Mister Man

  • Stormkeeper

  • Victims

My favourite tracks are, Karma Chameleon, Church Of The Poison Mind, Changing Every Day, Miss Me Blind and Storm Keeper. Although I think the entire album is absolutely fantastic!

If you’ve just started discovering the 80’s then this is an album you need to hear right now, same applies if you’re just discovering Culture Club!

I picked this album up in a charity shop and it’s in almost brand new condition, I’m really happy with it because it still had the original album insert with it too that has the lyrics to all of the songs on the album on it and it also acts as like a ‘credit’ list by both telling and showing you who the extra people that worked on this album are!

Female Vocals: Helen Terry

Saxophone: Steve Grainger

Trumpet: Terry Bailey

Keyboards: Phil Pickett

It’s so rare to get things like this in an album that I’ve picked up in a charity shop so I have to say this is a pretty special album and one of my most loved ones!
