In this post I’m going to be answering question 11 from the 1987 Book of Questions!

The question is…

You are given the power to kill people simply by thinking of their deaths and twice repeating the word ‘goodbye.’ People would die a natural death and no one would suspect you. Are there any situations in which you would use this power?

No.

Whether I’ve been given ‘special powers’ or not it still doesn’t give me any right to go around ending peoples’ lives at random.

To be honest I don’t think anything gives you the right to end another persons’ life unless you work on Death Row or at somewhere like Dignitas.

At first I did think that it would be good to use it to end the lives of anyone I loved who was terminally ill and suffering, but I sat and thought about this question for well over an hour and I don’t even think that using this power in situations like that would be right, it would be murder and murder is never okay.

Just to clarify I say that this is murder because I’m not authorised to take the persons’ life whereas if the terminally ill person went to Dignitas where people are authorised for such things then it would be assisted suicide.

This was surprisingly the toughest question I’ve answered so far, it really made me think!
