This post is the fourth post of my new series based on the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die by Robert Dimery.

In this series I’m going to be looking through the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die and commenting on the albums featured, telling you about albums I think should have been featured, artists that should have been featured too and just anything else I feel like commenting on!

This isn’t a sponsored series but if you’d like to read the book with me I’ll put a link at the bottom of this post to where you can buy it. This series is just something I wanted to do because I’d been reading the book and found that I had a lot of opinions!

Every Tuesday and Thursday I’m going to take one album from the front of the book starting in 1950s and one album from the back of the book starting in 2000’s, I’ll give you a bit of the albums history, the track list and of course my thoughts on the album!

In this post we’re going to be talking about My Bloody Valentine – MBV!

MBV isn’t available on Spotify so I can’t put a player in this post for it, but I’m sure if you look around on YouTube you’ll be able to find all of the songs on there if you’d like to listen to it!

MBV was released in 2013 by MBV Records, it was produced by vocalist and lead guitarist Kevin Shields, the art director was Nicholas Pankhurst and the run time is 46:37.

I have the CD version of this album somewhere in my collection and it’s a fantastic album!

There was a period of 22 years from 1991 to 2013 in which My Bloody Valentine didn’t make any music, I was born in 1991 and I was starting to think that I wouldn’t ever see a new My Bloody Valentine album and then it was announced and then it arrived in all of its perfect glory.

I often find when bands take such a long break from releasing music, especially any amount of time over 10 years their sound becomes dated and doesn’t seem relevant in any way anymore, but I don’t get that with this album, this album has the same relevance that it would have had if it was released in 1992 after Loveless.

Side note for the relevance point I made; a great example of this is Guns N Roses – Chinese Democracy, there was a 15-year gap between that album and the one before and it shows.

I really like what the book has to say aboutMBV and its predecessor Loveless, it says ‘Loveless was so far ahead of it’s time that it left guitar music playing an unwinnable game of catch up. Combining beauty and brutality MBV is its logical successor.

I wholeheartedly agree with that statement!

Let’s take a look at the track list for this beautifully brutal album!

Track One: She Found Now

Track Two: Only Tomorrow

Track Three: Who Sees You

Track Four: Is This And Yes

Track Five: If I Am

Track Six: New You

Track Seven: In Another Way

Track Eight: Nothing Is

Track Nine: Wonder 2

My favourite track from this album is definitely She Found Now what a fantastic album opener!

The main question I have to answer though is whether or not I believe it belongs on the list 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die?

As much as I think this is a brilliant album and it’s amazing that even with the 22-year gap between albums it still sounds true to their sound and relevant I think that you could go through life having never heard this album and be okay.

It’s a great album, but it’s not game changing like I think it’s predecessor Loveless was.
